Roadtrip to Paris!

Someone came up with the brilliant idea of taking a last minute roadtrip to Paris during the weekend we were scheduled to be in Luxembourg. A BIG thank you to Jen P & Justin for organizing/planning EVERYTHING and especially to Justin for driving! He picked up this sweet ride for us.

We ran into Korosh and Lisa right before we left. Look at this adorable bag Lisa had just gotten...so jealous!

OK, back to the roadtrip. JD & I held it down in the backseat. In addition to Justin's excellent driving skills (especially around twirly deals), I'd also like to applaud Jess C's co-piloting abilities.

These are the types of scenes you miss when you're on an airplane...

GPS...check, driving within the speedlimit...check, bugs all over the windshield...double check.

The sunset was gorgeous.

Thanks for pulling closer to the right side for us, Justin!

Final Destination...aka cheesy caption inspired by Christian.

The shuttles kept following us.

We drove into the city. After learning about all of these places during my 6 years of French (which has long been forgotten), I finally got to see it all! We drove past the l'Arc de Triomphe to start. I guess you have to go underneath something to actually drive through it?

We headed straight for The Eiffel Tower. We had to search a little for parking, but ended up pretty close!

I think I VAB'd this one.

Croque Monsieur. I ordered some wine/beer beverage with this...I think it might have been called a Cervoise...

So when we finally pulled up to the Eiffel Tower, Jess C's first reaction was "Hey y'all! There's a carnival!"

We walked back closer after dinner, but the lights had already been shut off. There were still armed guards everywhere.

Exhausted. We went back to the hotel to pass out right after this.

Ready to get in a full day's worth of sightseeing...after sleeping in til 10.

No driving...shuttles/trains/metros all the way!

That girl in the white shorts befriended us at the train station. Her name is Diana and she's Romanian but from Texas. She spent the rest of the day with us!

Getting to know our new friend. She was really nice!

We are big fans of awkward self-photos...anytime, anyplace.

l'Arc de Triomphe by day...the weather was perfect!

yup, anywhere...

People were chilling at the top.

Diana blends right in!

Time to eat again. Europeans love their twirly stairs.

Happy 4th of July!

I had been craving this since Brussels...so naturally, I ordered it again!

Back to The Eiffel Tower.

It is much prettier at night.

Look at this cutie pie!

View from below.

So Diana stopped to get her picture drawn and we thought we'd never see her again. Luckily, she was somehow able to find us through the massive crowds.

People watching was half the fun.

Dreadlock mullet

Armed guards again

Some guy got arrested...for what? I have no clue.

We walked up these stairs to the 1st & 2nd levels.

They were blasting MJ in the lawn and we could hear it all the way from where we were.

Taking a little breather before the 2nd flight of stairs.

They were filming a music video or something below.

I thought this was a real person at first...I'm blind, remember?

View from the other side.

My hair is blocking the nice part of the picture....curlies!

Another JD photo angle idea.

J'adore Paris.

We decided to skip the top floor so that we could try to make it to the Louvre before it closed. The elevator down was not only extremely large, but really packed.

La Seine

Everyone was outdoors because of the nice weather.

More walking.

We just couldn't wait to cross the street to start taking pictures.

We noticed everyone was leaving...

Aaaaand...the museum was closed by the time we got there :(.

But we could still go into the entrance and shopping area.

I can just imagine how packed this must get when it's open.

There's an inverted pyramid near all of the shops.

There is a Sephora underneath The Louvre...perfect for me because I needed eyeliner!

Ridiculous headline/illustration combo.

Oh yea, and Le Tour de France is happening right now! Doubt I'll make it to any of the stops, but there are people trying to get there so it's still a possibility!

We bought all day, unlimited, zone 1-6 passes so we tried to get our money's worth.

Notre Dame

People were at the top again!

Reminds me a little of La Sagrada in Barcelona.

It was pretty intense inside.

Stained glass from floor to ceiling.

They were in service while we were walking through. I felt kind of awkward at first, but I guess it's a continuous thing.

Down the aisle.

Also similar to La Sagrada.

Roses in a random park.

These were some of the lowest trees I had ever seen...and those are some short shorts too, Diana :).

We got a little lost.

Eating crepes solves everything. Jess got bananas & nutella.

I got ham, cheese, and mushrooms.

Oh yea, and the boys got hot dogs, and we all got beer. We had to celebrate Independence Day somehow! ps where is Diana?

walking walking walking walking walking walking

Jess C is such a slut.

angels :)

photobooth

We had to.

Conclusion:
Roadtrips=great. Roadtrips through Europe=better.

Ready to go back to Paris next weekend!

xx
